A door is a system, and one part of it has failed
Doors get replaced far more often than they need to be. A door that drags, will not latch or has dropped in its frame is nearly always a hardware, alignment or frame problem. The slab itself is the last thing to go.
In Arkansas there is usually a second culprit: moisture. Wood takes on water through a humid summer and swells until the door and its opening no longer fit each other, and wind-driven rain sits at the bottom of the frame until the jamb goes soft.
We fix the cause rather than the symptom. Planing a swollen door without addressing why it swelled just gives you a draughty door come winter.

Why does my door stick in summer and not in winter?
Humidity. Wood absorbs moisture through an Arkansas summer and swells until the door and frame no longer fit. We correct it by adjusting hinges and strike and easing the edges, rather than replacing a door that is behaving normally.
The bottom of my door frame is soft. How bad is it?
It depends how far it has gone. Rot confined to the jamb bottom or threshold is a straightforward cut-out and rebuild. Once it reaches framing or subfloor the job is bigger, and it never stops on its own.
Can you fix a door that will not lock?
Yes, and it is one of our most common calls. Usually the door has shifted and the latch no longer meets the strike, which is an alignment repair rather than a new lock.
Do you repair the frame as well as the door?
Where the frame is repairable, yes. Jamb and strike repair, hinge reinforcement, threshold adjustment and re-squaring are all part of the work.
How long does a door repair take?
Most hardware and alignment work runs one to three hours. Rot repair varies with the extent of the damage, and we will tell you the timeline when we quote.
